When everything failed, I turned over to this chemical as I did not want to throw all my plants, which were grown with love and care over the years. It seems to have worked really well so far.
Here are some tips for safe and effective usage.
1. There is a powdered version available as well, do not get that as that is less concentrated and there is a risk of leaching chemicals in your garden.
2. wear protective gloves to make sure you don't touch this at all.
3. Shake well and dissolve 1Tbsp (15ml) /litre or 4Tbsp/gallon into distilled water. Mix well as it does not dissolve that easily, in the process making sure it does not spill or touch your body.
4. soak all plants with this water, during spring (when plants are about to grow). You could do in fall/winter too for plants, e.g., Aeoniums growing in the winter/
5. collect the water run-off in the bucket and dispose of it at your waste disposal facility. I typically used 1g water containers and prepare solution just enough to saturate the soil.
6. Label the plants that were treated with this solution and make sure you cut the bloom when they are going to flower. This is to protect bees and humming birds. Labeling helps you remember this.
7. Do not use this for edible crops/vegetables. Don't apply near vegetables too just to be safe.
Avoidance is the best strategy. Now any plant I bring home, I first put them separately (like covid quarantine) for a month, to make sure the bugs in this new plant, if any, do not get spread to other plants. Also, inspect the roots as sometimes these bugs hide there.
The application instructions are not easy to understand at all, so I just mixed about 3/4 of a cup of it into 5 gallons of water and watered a 5ft-diameter circle around the tree. Works very quickly.
This is a systemic type insect control that your tree or shrub absorbs through the roots. It moves up through the roots and up the tree, providing protection against a variety of insects. It also prevents new infestations.
You can use this on the listed fruit and ornamental trees. It won't wash away from rain...just be sure to apply well before it rains.
We had a scale problem on a bush. Unfortunately, the bush was slowly being killed off by the scale. I had to remove the bush so it would not infect every other shrub and bush that had been near it. A professional nursery suggested BONIDE.
So far so good...none of the other shrubs or bushes that were close to the infected one have shown signs of the scale. It's good to have a product that will work and do what it is supposed to do. As with anything such as this, please read the directions on the product.
