This product works just as well as the liquid that originally came in my Terro ant baits, but is much more cost effective. If you have a significant ant problem, refilling the plastic bait containers with this is the way to go instead of buying new ones. The stuff works so well, though, that unless you have a big problem, this will probably be more than you will ever need.
8/19/15 Update -- Still using this same bottle of ant bait, but beginning to run out. It's amazing how much of this those tiny ants can consume given enough time. This is not to imply that it it is ineffective. Wherever and whenever I see a stream of ants crawling around my house, I put out a trap filled with this stuff and the ants are gone within a week or 2. Trap may have to be refilled several times over that period, but when the ants are gone, they're gone for good. I've seen some comments saying that this is only effective on certain types of ants, but I've used it at several houses within about a 25 mi. radius of my house in Northern Virginia and it has been equally effective in all of the locations. I like the fact that it's active ingredient is borax, which is basically harmless to humans so you can use it anywhere. Bottom line is I'm back to buy more so count me as a very satisfied customer.
This stuff is liquid crack for ants and it works without a doubt. I poured a few quarter sized little puddles on a plastic lid and placed it in the trail. A few hours later I laughed diabolically as they boldly and irreverently walked in and took the bait. 3 days later there were no ants. Another wave of ants invaded shortly after, and again, three days later they were all gone. I’ve used all kinds of other products including perimeter spray and repellent sprinkle granules but the Terro liquid is by far the best product. Ants love sweet liquid so the pairing with the borax does the job when they bring it back to the nest. It’s also far more direct so no need to spread granules all around the house. Buy it and win the war on those rude little punks!
You won't find better for your ant issues. I spent a few years as an exterminator for Terminex and this is what we used. I will give you a couple of tips on using it, and you might thank me for it.
1) If you can, go outside of your dwelling and find where the ants are coming in. If you find ants on the outside of the house, put some bait on the wall...just put the nozzle end against the wall and squeeze a bit out and let it run down the wall. It will not hurt your house and if the ants are plentiful, they will eat it all. If you notice it still there a day or two later, hose it off or just wait for a good rain.
2) If you can't find the ants entrance into your home, look around the windows and doors to see if you see them coming in there. If you are on ground level, go back out and look hard for the ants around the opening where you saw them inside the house. If this is too high, or you can't see them, proceed to step 3.
3) If you cannot bait the ants outside, you have no choice but to bait them inside. I suggest cutting some drinking straws into 2 - 3 inch lengths and filling them with the Terro Bait. Because it is syrupy, just pouring it on a window sill or counter is a mess. Just put your finger over one end of the piece of straw while you fill it up from the other end. Be sure to hold it horizontal after filling it, or you will have a sticky situation!
4) No matter how many ants come out to the bait - believe me, if the problem is large, the potential for hundreds of ants to come to the bait is very real - but, no matter how many ants come to eat the bait DO NOT SPRAY OR WIPE AWAY THE ANTS! It can get gross, but let them eat the bait and take it back to the colony to wipe out the Queen(s). If the ants eat all of the bait, but you are still seeing ants, re-bait until all the ants are gone.
A last couple of small points - if you do have some bait spill, hot water on a paper towel does a great job of cleaning it up. Also, if you cannot get the ants to take the bait, it is very likely that they are not wanting sweet food right then, but rather, are looking for fat or protein. Mixing the bait with peanut butter usually does a good job of luring these ants that are wanting a more savory meal. A mixture of 2 parts Peanut Butter to 1 part Terro is a good mix.
Works very well! I tried multiple other options to get rid of our major ant problem in the house. (We have about 40 ant hills on our property) and nothing was working until we bought this! Within a day it was such an astonishing difference I will be purchasing it again to keep on hand. So far we have treated the house and yard about 4 times and still have only used a quarter of the bottle! Its amazing!
This stuff is amazing. After having the worst ant problems in 20 years living here I decided to get the 5% strength since the 1% Terro liquid bait was no longer doing the trick. Ants were in every room and would practically carry away any stray crumbs in the kitchen. I went outside and found a major ant trail and applied ~ 20 good sized drops along the length of the trail and the ants went right for it. I noticed more ants feed on smaller drops than just a few larger pools so I spread it all out for all to eat it up but I only ended up using about an ounce of the stuff. To my astonishment the next day the ants were GONE - not one ANYWHERE and no trails.
It's been 3 weeks and we're in another 90 plus day and not a single ant still.
