Customers like the performance of the blowtorch. For example, they mention it works like a champ, is easy to use, and effective for taking care of weeds in the yard. Some say that the replacement works perfectly. Overall, most are satisfied with the performance and recommend it to others.
"...This thing works GREAT. First tried it on some stubborn weeds in cracks in mydriveway. I'd pulled them out, but they just came back...." Read more
"...In bright sunlight it's hard to see the flame but easy to see the result. If visibility is important, try killing weeds after sunset...." Read more
"...The replacement works perfectly. Great customer support, great product." Read more
"...I found that it works best on dry weeds so I doused the area I wanted to torch with a weed killer and waited a day or so then I went to town with..." Read more
Customers find the blowtorch easy to use and fun to use. They say the wand is easy to control and the product is convenient. Customers also mention that it's easier than pulling a big tank around and that it comes with a manual igniter.

Really hate using chemical solutions (I live near a lake, but that's not important -
chemicals end up in SOMEBODY'S water supply eventually anyway). Tried several chemicals
with marginal success. Also, it's difficult to get the weeds without getting the
flowers too. And you have to wait a week to see if they even worked.
This thing works GREAT. First tried it on some stubborn weeds in cracks in my
driveway. I'd pulled them out, but they just came back. Toasted them with this
gadget, gone in a couple of days, never to return. LOVE the environmental
friendliness of it. Weeds gone quickly, nothing left to pollute the environment.
Nicely balanced once you attach the propane can.
Had 100's of little weed sprouts between my annual flower plants. Put this on low
and carefully toasted them between the plants. Now essentially weed free.
Had to pull a few of them that were close to the "good" plants. Do NOT
run it on high! The lowest setting where it doesn't go out is fine.
Couldn't be happier. Propane cans are about $2 at Home Depot (tool aisle)
and last about 1 hour. A bit scary lighting it up, but it comes with a
"sparker" and it lights instantly. Be ready to light it and turn it on
just a very little bit because it's quick. There were complaints about similar
gadgets which have an integrated sparker that wore out - no problem here. If
the external sparker ever wears out, I can just buy a new one. Use the
sparker to light it, NOT a cigarette lighter - it "poofs" when it lights
and if your hand was any closer, you'd regret it.
The one thing I had to watch out for was it also lights the mulch on fire
if you're not careful. Best time to use it is after a rain. Failing that,
either water the garden first, or have the hose/sprinkler handy. One
additional remark - it's painted yellow. When I lit it up the first time,
the paint on the end burned off. This was disconcerting, but non-fatal.
Once it goes through that process, the end is black, but all is OK.
Yeah, it would be nice if it had a built-in igniter but for the price, I'm pleased with the sparker.
In use I have not had any problem with flameout. Just follow directions, keeping the nozzle a few inches from the weeds being incinerated.
In bright sunlight it's hard to see the flame but easy to see the result. If visibility is important, try killing weeds after sunset. The flame is easy to see in twilight.
Let's be clear: This tool INCINERATES weeds. If you burn a weed right next to something flammable, like a wooden house, you may be unhappy with the consequences.
Recommendation: Wear eye protection. A hot flame can make unexpected things pop, which is an eye hazard.
Several reviewers had difficulty with propane canisters. At my hardware store they asked the perfect question: Do you need a greenie, or a bluwey? In other words, a dark green canister, or a medium blue canister.
Correct answer: GREENIE.
I hope these observations are helpful. It's an incredibly simple tool, but a good one. Just use carefully.
I started out by wetting down the perimeter to prevent anything getting out of control. With all the rain we've had recently it was unlikely but I wanted to be safe. I also kept a hose in one hand so I could quickly extinguish the flare ups of dried material (pine needles/cones/ twigs) that my earlier pass with the leaf blower was unable to dislodge. As one review suggested I kept the valve open as little as possible and was able to complete the entire driveway (which can easily park 6 cars) with just over one (14 oz - plumber's size) tank. Granted some parts were pretty heavily covered with weeds so you may even use a lot less. I went back and did some touch ups the next day when I could clearly see what I missed among the dead carcasses of the previous days vegetation massacre. I wouldn't recommend this if you live in a fire/drought prone area. It would be way too easy to lose control of the flames in dry conditions. I also recommend first using this on an overcast day or in the evening if you've never used one before. The darker the better. It's hard to see the flame at all and in bright sunlight it's pretty much invisible. The wand is pretty easy to control but I suggest you work backwards to avoid stepping on an overheated surface.
My reason for the one star deduct is that ergonomically the handle gets pretty uncomfortable and the whole unit, while not heavy has enough weight to make it feel awkward. My wrists and hands were very stiff and sore afterwards. Despite switching hands / grip position frequently and attempting to hold the unit as loosely as possible - while still maintaining control. I wish the handle was designed more like a weed trimmer though I'm sure if I wanted to pay more I could find one that is better suited to my ergonomic preferences. All in all, it does the job though.

I have a large interlock pool patio laid about 10 years ago. The weed barrier was breached a couple of years ago and weeds began to sprout between the pavers. Chemical defoliants such as Round-Up are illegal where I live (I'm okay with that, they're nasty). Pulling weeds was tedious and further removed the aggregate between the bricks, allowing more room for fresh weeds.
Enter the Dragon.
Within an hour of unwrapping, the patio was bereft of weeds and I was prowling hopefully for more. It is easy to use, very effective, and environmentally friendly. Now that the patio is tamed, I pull it out of the shed a couple of times a week for about 15 minutes a relaxing session. My patio has never looked better.
It is easy to use, just screw on a propane bottle, open the valve, and strike a spark at the burner with the included lighter. The flame is very hot, and invisible (be careful while getting used to it). It makes a mid-level roaring sound as propane torches do. You need to be aware of flammable objects and things that would not appreciate great heat (plastic water lines, low-voltage wiring). It's easy to singe the lawn at the patio borders if not careful. I've used about 1.5 propane bottles (1lb Coleman bottles, cheap and readily available) this season. One solid piece of pipe, easily stored, comfortable too hold, easy to use, and not very heavy.
Before I got the Mini Dragon, I went through 2 Bernzomatic weed torches that I felt worked poorly. They were hard to start and they were hard to keep running. To their credit Bernzomatic stood behind their product, replacing the first one and giving me a full refund on the second one.
The Mini Dragon starts easily and quickly and keeps running at any gas flow setting. It is constructed of sturdy steel and is very well put together.
The Mini Dragon is the garden weed torch to buy.
Pro:
+ For a single gas canister handheld Propane Torch, this is well made, nicely balanced, and has a nice somewhat precise flame discharge.
+ On the lower end of the handheld Propane Torch price spectrum (not to say this is a cheap unit), this is the best of the bunch.
+ The Red Dragon can withstand prolonged use. I have used it for 30 minutes straight, and the metal showed no wear or sign of fatigue. The Hot Max GTorch (lower priced, similarly made handheld torch) after about 30 minutes of used showed massive metal fatigue. The bottom 1/4 of the arm literally detached due to the heat, weakening the metal rod, and literally breaking off.
Cons:
- There is no "self-ignitor" like the lower end devices offer, so kind of an inconvenience.
- The flame out is about average, like other handheld torches. So there is frequent flame out, and restarting of the blow torch. I think this is an inherit design limitation when using in a partial windy area at low ground level, the flame with snuff out by these two factors.
If I had to buy it all over again, I would definitely go with the Red Dragon in a yellow paint scheme as it is built much better with better quality steel despite not have a built in spark ignitor.
