GREAT PRODUCT BUT INCOMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS

GREAT PRODUCT BUT INCOMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS
Someone recommended this product to help with a carpenter bee problem I had on my deck. They swore by it and indicated they had a few traps. I received the one and hung it for about 10 days with no results. The bees were flying around it but totally not interested. I started the process to return the item. A few days later I was leaving another customer's home and noticed the same bee trap and saw that it appeared to be full of bees. I inquired and they swore it worked and she told me how she set it up and "applied the bee trap lure". I'm like "bee trap lure??????????" The instructions that were with mine made NO MENTION of needing Carpenter Bee Lure to attract the bees. I did some online research and I found the product and found that an order from Amazon (at the time) was going to take about 3 weeks to arrive buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut I also learned that a couple of dead carpenter bees are even better. My neighbor swatted 2 bees and we placed them in the trap. Fast forward five days (and one relaxing trip to Jamaica) I return to find the trap was almost half full of trapped bees!!!!!!!! My other neighbor will be ordering one in the next day or so. I will be giving him a couple of my dead bees to start his trap. I would highly recommend when emptying the trap to leave 2-3 bees in there. My research found that they are attracted to "bee pheromones" which is what the dead bees provided. These details were no where in the instructions I received. Needless to say, I have cancelled the return and am contemplating a small "dead bee" supply business in my neighborhood.......Price is 3 bees for 2 Snickerdoodles :-D

5.0 out of 5 stars functional and nice looking as well
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2021
I was skeptical, but these traps do the trick and they’re really nice looking as well. attached is a picture of our trap after it’s been hanging for only 4 days (it took about 2 days for the bees to find it and enter). it’s really hard to tell from the photo because they are really in a pile, but there’s at least 15 carpenter bees in there. Location is key, we have another one that only attracted one bee so far. The successful trap we put where there was a ton of carpenter bee activity. we like them so much my husband told me to order “a bunch” more. Well worth the cost of the traps to avoid the damage to the wood.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT WORKS!! Great Purchase!!
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2020
Carpenter bees were drilling holes in the rafters of the roof that partially covers my deck. I researched ways to kill them without hiring an exterminator and found a bunch of different ideas (e.g., spraying WD-40 in the holes), but nothing worked. Because they never seem to land, I couldn’t hit them with wasp/hornet spray, and the couple I did hit flew away like I’d sprayed them with water.
Anyhow, I bought this trap. It’s very well made, super easy to assemble (just screw the jar to the box), has a decent sized chain (about a foot long and strong enough to hold this lightweight trap), and a nail was even included for hanging. It actually took me longer to find my hammer than it did to assemble and hang the trap (only a few minutes).
I’ve had it hanging for about 10 days and have caught about 10 bees. It’s not “slaughtering” them, but steadily wiping them out. Also, many of the last 10 days have been cool, cloudy, and rainy here, so the bees aren’t as active on those days. However, in the last two days, it’s been sunny and warm, and about four bees have met their fate.
Overall, I’m rating this trap as excellent because it works as advertised, is well constructed, and I can store it over fall and winter and use it year after year in the spring and summer months. Plus, I don’t have to pay an exterminator a small fortune to spray a bunch of poison.
**Note: One thing I learned in my research is that carpenter bees don’t like to drill into stained wood. My deck is stained, but the exposed roof rafters aren’t. The only place I’ve seen holes is in the rafters, so this appears to be true.
