Product Description
Avenger Organics Avenger Natural Weed Killer is a non-selective, post-emergence herbicide that quickly and effectively kills weeds, grasses and broadleaves without causing harm to the environment. The active ingredient d-limonene (citrus oil) naturally strips away the waxy plant cuticle, causing it to dehydrate and die. University and independent testing results prove that Avenger Weed Killer is as effective, but faster acting when compared against leading synthetic herbicides. When tested against non-organic "natural" herbicides that contain vinegar (acetic acid), citric acid, clove oil or fatty acids (soap), it is more effective with quicker results. It is recommended for areas such as landscape borders, driveways, patios, sidewalks, around mature trees and ornamentals, around buildings, in greenhouses and gardens, fencerows and around flower beds.

I usually use Ground Clear, which is the best product I've very seen and works for a very long time, but it is very potent. I have a backyard that has pavers and mulch and I needed to kill all the little weeds between the cracks as well as the larger weeds in the mulch. Nothing was above 6 inches - if it was, I pulled what I could or chopped down to size and used Avenger on it. I eyeballed mixing the concentrate to make a 4:1 or 5:1 concentration spray to use on the weeds and it worked like a charm!
I was worried it wouldn't work because it's not as potent as Ground Clear, I assumed, since it was supposed to be organic. Also because it had been raining torrentially for over a week straight - I was afraid the weeds wouldn't absorb it since we had so much rain. I'm not kidding when I say within minutes of spraying, the weeds wilted and started to turn brown almost before my eyes! I think it works better when you spray broad leaves to cover them and make sure to spray directly into the ground to the roots for the tougher or larger weeds. Every weed died. And not only that, but it smells like oranges instead if that awful chemical smell you get from the normal chemical weed killers. I don't know if it will last as long as the traditional weed killers since it's only been a week since I used it, but I don't see any new weeds growing or the ones I sprayed growing back yet. I guess we will see! I'll update my review if there are any issues.
Note: Safe for pets AFTER it dries. I don't think it's toxic when wet, but it may irritate them since it probably is somewhat acidic (citric acid - hence the orange smell) to work. Of course, always wash your hands after use, but I didn't even have to wear gloves to use this and I didn't have any issues (and I have sensitive skin).
I would definitely recommend using this!
BTW, it totally jams up your sprayer at that 1:3 concentration. I had a 20 dollar one that worked great with water, but this thing all but killed it. Then I bought a sprayer that was twice as expensive and it still jammed, and simply washing out the nozzle was not effective, so it's tough to use. So, maybe for that reason it's more deserving of 2.5 stars...
The challenge is we can't find this combination locally. In fact, none of the big box stores (Lowes, Home Depot, etc) or even our local nurseries have it. Some sell a 10% vinegar and orange oil combination, but we've found it is not very effective. Thus, to make our solution, we buy the 20% vinegar and the orange oil (from different vendors on Amazon), then mix the final solution ourselves. For the orange oil, we like "Nature's Avenger Organic Weed and Grass killer" We have a lot of weeds, and we end up using 4 gallons of 20% vinegar and two quarts of Nature's Avenger at a treatment cost of about $150. Not cheap, but cheaper than hiring someone to clean all the weeds later.
Bottom line: If you want to avoid using RoundUp, it's worth trying 20% acetic acid mixed with Nature's Avenger orange oil. Spray in the morning on a hot day with plenty of sun and no rain. (The fumes are a bit strong, both the acetic acid - vinegar - and the orange oil, so be aware of that.)
