Product Description

Starbar 14680 captivator fly trap attracts flies with its patented food and sex attractant. Flies cannot resist the lure of the captivator and fly inside, trapping themselves and leading straight to their death. It only takes minutes to set up by mixing the attractant with water. The captivator uses no insecticides or harsh chemicals, making it ideal for use around children or pets. It can be washed and reused. Holds up to two quarts of dead flies.

Cheese and Rice, this thing works!
5 Stars
Cheese and Rice, this thing works!
Well, let me start off by telling you a little bit about WHY I bought this product. We have three dogs - a staple of our family - and they can come and go as they please through the doggie door that I installed leading to our back patio. Among the other dogs, we have a GSP that will absolutely eat the face off of anything unknown to him that pokes its poor, unassuming head through that flap. Our GSP is paid handsomely as our head of security. With the convenience of the doggie door, we have the portal for the dreaded black house fly, but only during the summer months. Summer is when we entertain our friends and friends of our children, so you can imagine the horror on the faces of our guests and my wife when there is a small battery of these nasty maggot layers buzzing around in our kitchen. Our best efforts to keep the kitchen as clean as Private Joker's latrine were futile in the battle against these incessant, nasty SOBs.We actually have 3 fly swatters in the kitchen armory. One is electric - it zaps the life out of these putrescence seeking scavengers. It's actually kinda fun - there a flash of plasma, followed by a plume of ozone and smoke - if you listen closely, you can hear them cry out as the life rushes out of their miserable bodies and towards the darkest depths of Mordor, or whatever hell these things go to . I actually keep a sharpie close by my electric swatter. In sort of a WWII fashion, I make a mark for every fly soul I steal with this thing. I have filled up one side completely, and have switched to the other side, just like a 101st Airborne paratrooper would have done with his folding stock .30 Carbine in the European Theater of WWII.So, the two manual swatters serve as a standby, and are quite handy. There are days when I kill over 10 flies in my kitchen. No matter how clean we keep things, every time one of our fur babies makes another trek through the yard and into the house, one of these despicable insects infiltrates its way into our sacred safe zone. Time to bring out the big guns. Occasionally, I'll use bug spray to inflict a little more pain and misery on these hovering enemies of mine, but it's not the best solution. Fly paper just didn't work, and is unsightly in the house. I needed something more. I wasn't ready to break out the flamethrower or tactical nukes, but I did the next best thing. I bought this product. The Captivator fly trap arrived a day or two after ordering (thank you, Prime), and I immediately tore the box open to get a gander. I was like Ralphie at Christmas time... I read the destructions and proceeded to pull out the sealed package of mystery death powder that came with this kit. I thought "How bad could this stuff be?" The label said is contained putrescible egg solids. I'm not sure if there's a word stronger than putrescible, but there needs to be. I could smell this stuff through the plastic, before I opened the package. My hopes were high, and an evil, Gricnh-like grin crept it's way onto my face.I hung this thing up outside - adjacent to my back door (the one with the doggie door) and added the water and powder as directed. Great - Wait and see what happens... Well, brother, let me tell you something- this things brings em in from the next county. In 2 days, I had a hundred or more flies that met their watery fate by drowning in the temptation of putrescence that lured them in in the first place. I was happy. It was working. But, therein lies the problem for me. Yes, it was working, but it was working TOO well. Not only was I getting flies in the vicinity of my back door, I was also attracting flies form the next county, Texas, and California. Holy crap. If I was in the business of collecting dead flies, I'd be doing great! The problem was that this thing was hanging right by my back door. It stinks, but really brings the flies in. So many, in fact, that MORE flies were making their way into my kitchen. It took me about a week to realize that I needed to move this thing to a spot AWAY from my back door - closer to the back of the property. The intent was to catch them all before they had the chance to wreck my sanity by contaminating my kitchen. In my bloodlust for taking the lives of these nasty creatures, I made the problem worse. So, once I moved this horrificly awesome fly death administrator to a spot away from my back door, my fly problem cleared up, and I was able to return to a peaceful sleep dreaming of being in sun-god robes on a pyramid with thousands of women screaming and throwing little pickles at me.In short, great product. Use it wisely, you should.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smelly, but effective.
Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2023
Im trying to reduce plastic waste so I bought this. We are feeding a mama cat and her four kittys outdoors, so the food attracts a disgusting amount of flies. Last year, I bought another brand and hung it at the west side of the house, 10 feet from the porch. The smell was so atrocious my mailman complained and refused to deliver mail for several weeks. This was my previous experience. So I hung this brand, with the reusable container from a tree in the front yard, 5 feet from the door. No complaints. When you pass by you smell a little funk, but you can blame that on the trash can. Keep in mind, the other brand got my mail held for two weeks. With this perspective, it is NOT BAD. I refill the water to the line about once a week. Today I strolled by and realized it was full, picture included. And yes, I dump that vile mess into a bag, and put it in the garbage double bagged. Never has any fly stuff killed so many flies. I agree with another reviewer, fly massacre. Amazing!

Can't believe how good this works, after one week it trapped hundreds of flies after two weeks it is full to the top!
I feel like I've committed genocide!
The only issue now is how do I empty it ready for new bait, I know it's going to stink and a lot of the flies are still alive!

4.0 out of 5 stars Utterly disgusting because it is so effective!!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 10, 2020
This was very pricey and came from America so not great for the environment for postage! Really effective though, but really gross to try to empty. I am putting off emptying it for the second time now and the flys have laid eggs and there is now The full life cycle of the fly happening before my eyes!!! Next time I am going to try putting a plastic bag in there next time so I can just pull this out rather than trying to empty the putrid fly hell into a Bag before putting it in the bin. I bought another make of refills and these were as effective. I couldn’t give it 5 stars because the price was astronomical for what it is and it’s so digesting to empty. I would definitely recommend this as a highly effective but extremely stinky and gross fly catcher! Prepare to be repulsed and impressed in the same thought!!!
